Somebody new moved to Kingsbridge this month. They searched for a shop like yours, found nothing, and spent their money at whatever did show up. We checked every business on and around West 231st Street and Broadway against the city's own records to count the ones with no website of their own, then ran our audit across the sites the strip actually owns. Here is what came back, and what fixing it costs.

Structured data is the part of a page written for machines rather than people: where you are, when you are open, what you sell, whether somebody can book you. These sites carry none of it, so every one of those facts is left for Google to infer. Your hours should not be a guess.
Measured by our audit against each live site on the dates shown. Two sites in the monitored set could not be read on the last run: a security certificate that expired, so browsers refuse to open it at all; a server set to turn away automated visitors, which is a setting rather than a fault. Separately, of the 123 businesses we catalogued on and around West 231st Street and Broadway, 93 have no website of their own. Three of every four. Not a slow website, not an ugly one: none of their own. Everything a stranger can learn about them online sits on somebody else's page, a directory listing or a delivery app or a booking service, and it is only as current as whoever runs that page decided to make it.
How we counted
We took the Kingsbridge Business Improvement District's own merchant directory, all 183 listings, and checked every one against public business registries, domain records, and the live web. One listing turned out to be the same business as another, filed twice. We set aside 45 chain locations, three franchise offices, and eleven listings that are not businesses: a precinct house, a post office, two elected officials, a church, a shelter. What is left is 123 independent businesses, and that is the number behind every count on this page. Ninety-three of them have no working website of their own. Twenty-nine do, and those are the ones we audited.
One of the 123 we could not settle either way, because the site we found could not be confirmed as theirs. Speed figures are lab measurements taken under controlled conditions, not readings from real visitors' phones. This work was done from public records, not on foot. Nobody from ACMeridian has walked this strip counting doors, and on the day we do, this page will say so.

The Kingsbridge Business Improvement District keeps a directory of the merchants on this strip. We read all 183 listings. Sixty-two of them carry the same phone number, a 718 area code followed by five fives, in the field the page uses to describe the business. One number cannot belong to sixty-two businesses. That field is also what feeds the listing's structured data and the preview card that shows up when somebody shares it, so for sixty-two businesses on this strip, the first thing a search engine reads about them is a phone number that cannot be theirs. Nobody ever told them it was there.

Is this Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, or Marble Hill?
Kingsbridge is the strip along Broadway and West 231st Street, roughly West 230th up to West 236th. Kingsbridge Heights is uphill and east, past the Deegan. Marble Hill sits south across the creek and is legally part of Manhattan, whatever the walk suggests. This matters more than it sounds. When we checked the web studios currently ranking for this neighborhood, three of the four had the location wrong: one was aiming at Kingsbridge Heights, another had filed Kingsbridge under a Manhattan county. A studio that cannot find your block is unlikely to help anybody else find it.
Everybody here already knows us. Why would we need a website?
Word of mouth is why you are still open. It is not why the next person walks in. The customer who has not been told about you yet is standing on this same strip choosing among everybody on it, on a phone, before they leave the apartment. A website does not replace the recommendation. It is what catches everybody nobody has recommended you to.
